Remedial Groundwork for Horses

About

ABOUT

Like most horse mad girls it all started as a hobby.  With a love of horses and a serious fascination with the training process, it seemed like a natural progression for me to train as a riding instructor as soon as I left school.

I trained through the BHS training system and worked for the organisation for many years.  Qualified as a Level 3 Coach, I followed a competition pathway for many years, producing, training and competing a variety of horses from novice to advanced level at both Show Jumping and Dressage.

With over 25 years’ experience as a Coach and a Trainer, I am based close to Sandbach in Cheshire, and offer both freelance and virtual services.

A decision to follow my heart and my love for equestrian sport led me to a full-time position with the largest equine charity in the UK, The British Horse Society.  It was an ideal opportunity to combine my equestrian, event planning and business skills.  Having ridden since I was 5 and a regular competitor on the show-jumping circuit from the age of 14, it was a decision that enabled me to connect with some of the most celebrated equestrian professionals in the UK (and abroad) and develop a wide network of contacts for all things equestrian.

There are so many people who have influenced my own development and certainly continue to do so. As a life-long learner, I have always wanted to learn and expand my knowledge and I'm well aware of just how fortunate I have been to have worked and trained with some of the world's most talented trainers.

The common theme amongst these amazing people is their willingness to 'pass it forward for the good of the horse’, so I will be forever grateful for their generosity, and for the knowledge and experience they shared so freely.

The first groundwork lesson I encountered was with Iris Kellet over in Ireland, many years ago.  A show-jumping legend, Iris devoted herself to the sport and trained some of the greatest names in Irish show jumping including, Eddie Macken, Paul Darragh and Jack Doyle.

Although I was there to train, I really wasn't sure about this groundwork stuff !! A typical teenager - I was a little impatient I suppose, and just wanted to 'kick-on' and start jumping.

BUT HOW WRONG WAS I ?

It was such an important lesson to learn - and totally inspiring to see how much the horses way of going could be so positively influenced from the ground - developing carrying capacity, bascule and self-carriage.

It is great to welcome you to my website, please do get in touch if you have any questions.
